Graham Students Sizzle during Fiesta Day

Posted on Feb 17, 2015

KINGSTON – It may have been blustery and snowy outside, but the Graham Café was sizzling last Friday as classes made spicy salsa and creamy guacamole as part of Fiesta Day. Chopping onions and dicing tomatoes blended smoothly with the sounds of mariachi music as three Graham Academy classes ventured into Mexican culture and cuisine. The fiesta was part of the cultural exploration curriculum currently being taught throughout the classes. A culminating World Culture Day is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 27th. All families are welcome to attend.

The Graham Café, an integral part of the experiential learning curriculum at The Graham Academy, is designed to create an interactive environment to provide lessons on food preparation and kitchen safety. Modeled to function like a restaurant, students are encouraged to learn different aspects of working in a restaurant such as recipe preparation, cooking, serving, and cleanup. The Graham Café works in conjunction with the Graham Garden and greenhouse, where a majority of produce is grown by students assisted by the Sustainable Agriculture Coordinator, Richie Mitchell.

Miss Laura and her students Brandon Thorne, Christopher Hilbert, and Alex Peters-Breish are focused on preparing salsa for The Graham Academy’s recent Fiesta Day.
